Day 1 - Taipei 101

Hi everyone, greetings from Taipei, Taiwan!

Today marks the first day of our journey in Taipei, Taiwan. We departed happily from Singapore Changi Airport in the morning and arrived in Taipei around 3.05p.m. The weather was cloudy and the temperature was higher than what we had expected it to be, at 26oC. We met our local tour guide and boarded the bus to our first destination – Taipei 101. Our local tour guide was very friendly and throughout the journey, she was introducing some of famous destinations in Taipei as well as the culture of Taiwan to us. She tried to engage us by distributing free souvenirs for any correct answers/ responses to her questions!

Taipei 101
This building was built in 2004 and has a height of 508 meters. It comprises 101 floors above ground and 5 floors underground (approximately 80m deep). It is designed to withstand the typhoon winds and earthquake tremors that are common in its area of the Asia-Pacific. Suspended from the 92nd to the 87th floor, we also saw the detailed structure of the world’s largest and heaviest wind damper with a weight of 660 metric tons. This pendulum sways to offset movements in the building caused by strong gusts and thus prevent damage to the structure due to strong wind loads.
We took the Guinness Record World Fastest Elevator, with a top speed of 1,010 meters per minute to the indoor observatory. It took only us 35 seconds to travel from the 5th to 89th floor! In addition, the color of Taipei 101 changes daily according to the seven colors of the rainbow!

Thats it for Day 1! Let’s check out more pictures that we took at Taipei 101.
